Sing, Abad shine in Dacudao Cup

DAVAO City’s Andre Kenny Sing and Dana Mariella Abad clinched two titles each at the close of the 9th Elias Dacudao Cup Junior Tennis Tournament held Sunday, December 15, at the Las Terrazas Subdivision indoor tennis courts in Maa, Davao City.

Matches were initially conducted at Ecoland 1 Tennis Center, Ecoland Phase 2 and Ecoland Phase 4 Tennis Club courts but the finals matches were moved to Las Terrazas due to the heavy rain.

Holy Child College of Davao netter Sing survived past Yassan Al Anazi, 7-5, 6-2, in their boys 14 and under championship match.

He earlier outlasted Rey Anthony Byrd, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Sing’s tandem with Jude Miguel Hidalgo beat Jude Machael Andrei Padao and John Roddick Litang via walkover to annex the boys 16-under crown.

Former Palarong Pambansa medalist Abad, who is currently playing for the National University (NU), spanked Jufe-An Cocoy, 6-3, 6-3, the girls 18 and under titular showdown.

Abad also bagged the girls 18-under doubles title with partner Nina Angeline Alcala. Abad-Alcala demolished the pair of Pauline Palac and Theresa Claire Nacito, 6-2, 6-2.

In other matches, Rhea Jean Palac copped the eight and under unisex title; Jose Kael Palo of Kidapawan City crushed Shaun Globasa, 4-0,4-0 in 10-under unisex finals; Palo and Inigo Nathaniel Barrios beat Globasa and Krelz Jan Gecosala, 4-2, 4-0, in 10-under unisex doubles; Palo thrashed Rafael Duay, 6-3, 6-2, in boys 12-under finals; Hannah Divinagracia came back from a first set loss by defeating Stefi Marithe Abudo, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 in girls 12-under finals; Divinagracia edged Nina Angelina Alcala, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in girls 14-under finals; Manila’s Joewyn Pascua overcame Ruper Ohrelle Tortal, 7-6 (5), 7-5 in boys 16-under championship; Cocoy turned back Nacito, 6-0, 6-4, in girls 16-under finals; and Joaquin Karl Palo of Kidapawan City eked out a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory over Angil Balaoing in boys 18-under finals.
