THE University of Mindanao (UM) harvested a total of 16 gold medals, nine silvers and one bronze to rule the recently concluded Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet 2020 men's athletics competition at the UM track oval Sunday, March 8.

Johnny Gil Meder pocketed four golds to lead host UM's medal haul. He checked in at 22.70 seconds to emerge champion in men's 200-meter dash, beating teammate Jake Andrie Villaluz (24.05) and Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) bet Michael Dave Cabanig (25.10) who wounded up with the silver and bronze, respectively.

Meder also topped the men's 400m event, clocking 52.41 over RMC's Client Ivan Raga (57.31) and Andrie Cada (2:11.67). He also bagged the men's long jump gold by registering 6.09 meters as fellow UM varsity scholar Lenbert Peli (5.97m) got the silver and RMC's Cabanig (5.41m) ended with the bronze.

His fourth gold came from the men's 4X100m relay team event as he anchored UM to a golden finish with a time of 3:39.77, while RMC (3:59.02) finished second and Emar Human and Environmental College (4:33) came third.

UM's other golds were courtesy of Kenneth Briely Briz (100m), Nieljhay Maaliw (800m), Dave John Gonzaga (5,000m run), Jomarie Luayon (10,000m run), Marvin Ponce (5,000m walk), Kenneth Alipan (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles), 4X100 relay team, Ira Alegria (triple jump), Carlo Linao (discus throw) and Lynbert Peli (javelin throw).

RMC, for its part, clinched three golds from Hasoni Camamara (shot put), Kyle Levi Cayug (1,500m) and Nikko Caparoso (3,000m).

Games in other sports will resume on Sunday in the Davao City Prisaa Meet 2020. It will serve as qualifying for the Regional Prisaa Meet 2020, which will also be held in Davao City.
