DUMAGUETE City has elected a new Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) federation chairman.

Barangay Batinguel SK chairman Lei Marie Daniella Montesa Tolentino was declared Monday, May 28, as winner in the election supervised by the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Commission on Elections, and City Council secretary.

Tolentino would have garnered 22 votes but one was declared invalid by the Comelec members, who were also SK chairmen from different barangays. Her closest rival got six votes.

Tolentino, who is from Batinguel, said she did not expect a landslide win.

She said her administration will be consultative and will collaborate with the youth leaders in putting into action her plans for the youth of the city.

Tolentino enjoined all the youth leaders to work together to make Dumaguete City a better place for the youth.

Other SK federation officers are Rabello Sumoson from Bunao, secretary; Airah Faye Tabotabo of Looc, treasurer; Dazille Dayuday of Pulantubig, auditor; Christianne Marie Oropel of Poblacion 5, PRO; and John Mark Catalan of Motong, sergeant-at-arms.

In his message, Mayor Felipe Remollo said he is happy to see a rebirth of the SK.

Remollo called on them not to waste the opportunity of being leaders of the youth because “this is already the second lease in the life of the SK.”

He reiterated his administration’s promise to protect the integrity and the future of the youth of Dumaguete.

Remollo said he intended the youth of Dumaguete to be the leaders of the youth of the country for being firm, independent and being true to their oath and for having the heart to serve. (PNA)
