KALIBO, Aklan -- The famous Filipino bread, “Mamon”, made its way through the recently concluded Anuga Food Fair in Cologne, Germany.

Guidon dela Cruz, president of the Bread and Butter Inc., said that the Food and Beverage Trade Fair is the largest tradeshow in Germany.

The food fair features 7,590 exhibitors and about 170,000 visitors this year. The trade fair was held on October 5 to 9.

Anuga is an acronym derived from its German title, Allgemeine Nahrungs -und Genussmittel-Ausstellung, which means General Food and Beverage Exhibit.

“We had successfully showcased our mamon bread in there. Our local products had made a long way,” Dela Cruz said.

Bread and Butter Inc. first started out in 1985 in Kalibo, Aklan, selling pandesal and other traditional Filipino bread. The company soon expanded and began selling a wide variety of bread and pastries.

In 2010, it received the Presidential Awards for Outstanding Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) awarded by then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

In 2017, Bread and Butter Inc. gained national recognition after it bagged the Franchise Excellence Awards Medium Category.

The award recognizes Filipino franchises that have become a benchmark in national market penetration through exemplary operation and good corporate governance.

For several years, the company has benefited from various programs offered by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology.

At present, the Bread and Butter has hundreds of franchises in Visayas and in provinces in Luzon, such as Mindoro and Romblon.
