THE provincial government of Antique will be closing its doors from adjacent provinces due to a surge in Covid-19 cases, a local executive said.

Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said the province will close its boundaries starting April 5 until 19, 2021. This meant that those coming from adjacent provinces of Iloilo and Aklan are barred from entering Antique.

"We are also implementing a liquor ban and curfew from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. daily. Those who were allowed to enter the province are essential government workers and medical staff," Cadiao said.

Based on recent reports of the Provincial Health Office, Antique had 37 active cases. Of the number, 20 were medical frontliners working at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital.

One of the medical employees reportedly died due to Covid-19.

Virgilio "Bong" Sanchez of the Save Antique Movement said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas has pledged 1,000 testing kits to help Antique frontliners in their contact tracing activities. (SunStar Philippines)
