DOT bats for safe, responsible tourism

Jun N. Aguirre

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is gearing for its campaign for safe and responsible tourism all over the country, especially in Boracay.

In her video address, DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said part of this campaign is coordinating with the Aklan provincial government to ensure the sustainability of Boracay as a premier tourism destination.

Puyat made the video message for the 65th founding anniversary celebration of the province of Aklan.

"Though the Covid-19 pandemic continues to hamper the province's tourism industry, especially in Boracay, we will continue working with the provincial government and private stakeholders to help ease its effects and hopefully, jumpstart safe and responsible tourism," said Puyat in her three minutes address.

According to the Malay Tourism, from April 1 to 18, 2021, Boracay received 970 tourists coming from Visayas and Mindanao. (SunStar Philippines)
