Young professional plumbers complete training

THE Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) Molo Campus produced 24 young professional plumbers who completed their 202 hours of Plumbing National Certificate (NC) II training.

The scholars of Uswag Skills Enhancement and Livelihood Program (USELP) were confirmed as graduates by Mayor Jerry Treñas during the culminating activity at City Hall on April 12.

The recipients were each provided P5,000 start-up capital and P1,600 allowance. They are qualified to take the NC II assessment test by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).

The youths were given scholarship provision to support and assist the needs on their employment and source of income for their families affected by the crisis.

"The big help came from skills training on doing layout, single and multi-point installation and other learning outcomes. It is also very useful since I'm taking up engineering. TIIC taught us to focus and pursue the tasks given by our instructor," said Narciss Pol Odelmo, one of the beneficiaries of USELP Scholarship.

USELP assists youth and young adults aged 18-30 years old who were unemployed and affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This free training program equips beneficiaries with technical skills and knowledge that will help them as their source of income or become employable.

The initiative is in partnership with Iloilo Children's Welfare Foundation chaired by First Lady Rosalie Treñas, City Social Welfare and Development Office and other agencies with their efforts in implementing and facilitating the undertaking. (PR)
