'2GO CabinCargo' offers viable alternative to air freight

Sunnexdesk

THE Covid-19 pandemic has created uncertainties in the logistics and transportation industries. Airlines have reduced frequency by as much as 80 percent of domestic flights due to lack of passengers. Consequently, the supply chain of products that normally go on air freight have been disrupted. It led to a gap in transporting essential goods, such as pharmaceutical products and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Responding to the need to move essential cargo at the shortest possible time from Manila to Visayas and Mindanao, 2GO introduced 2GO CabinCargo.

"2GO CabinCargo is the best alternative to air freight, while the airlines are reevaluating their plans," 2GO Chief Operations Officer Waldo Basilla said.

"By using our ropax fleet, which are the fastest vessels in the country that offer special handling of cargoes, we now offer the best lead times closest to air freight. We deliver to consumers in the key ports of Visayas and Mindanao within five days, from pick-up to delivery. With this option, shippers can simply adjust their supply chain by a couple of days and reestablish their product flows," Basilla added.

Each vessel of 2GO CabinCargo has a maximum capacity of 14cbm, equivalent to a 10-footer container. Vessels accommodate around 164 boxes, with each box allowed to weigh up to 25 kilograms. Weight of packages are heavily considered as loading is done manually and handled with utmost care.

These cargoes are also given unique priority as they are loaded last on the vessels and stowed in locations, enabling first to discharge directly into a truck. This bypasses the need to transfer to terminals and CFS hubs for unloading and handling which lengthens lead times. From the port, cargoes are directly transported to customers -- individuals or enterprises -- thereby considerably reducing the time it takes to complete delivery.

2GO CabinCargo has successfully serviced important products and documents and is currently being used by pharmaceutical and e-commerce companies, as well as businesses carrying health and beauty products.
