THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) - National Capital Region (NCR) said it oversaw the issuance of separation pay amounting to P2.3 billion to nearly 1,500 employees retrenched by Philippine Airlines (PAL).

"A total of 1,455 retrenched workers of the flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) received their separation pay worth P2,315,477,240.00," DOLE-NCR said in a statement.

The affected workers were either voluntarily and involuntarily separated from the company.

The DOLE-NCR also noted that the original retrenchment plan announced in February involved 2,300 employees.

However, PAL management decided to retain 845 workers. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
