AT LEAST 37 more jobseekers were hired-on-the spot during the second day of the simultaneous job fairs held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Data from DOLE showed that there were 37 individuals considered as hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) during the "Philippine Tourism Job Fair" in Pasay City, Davao City, and Cebu City.

Another 1,223 were considered as "near-hires" applicants, according to DOLE.

"Near-hires" are those considered hired but still need to submit additional or lacking requirements, or may need to undergo further interviews or exams to fully qualify for the job.

On the other hand, the DOLE bared that there were 184 fallouts among the job applicants.

"Fallouts" are those that have been deemed as not qualified by participating employers.

To note, the DOLE and the DOT have partnered to hold a series of job fairs for the tourism industry nationwide with an aim to help jobseekers find employment as well as to address the workforce shortage in the accommodation and services sector.

The job fairs were launched simultaneously at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, SM City Cebu in Cebu City, and Abreeza Mall in Davao City.

There were a total of 157 participating employers that offered 8,310 job vacancies.

On the other hand, at least 945 jobseekers participated in the job fairs in the three different venues. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
