5 arrested for kidnapping, bribery of cops

FIVE persons, including a Chinese national, was arrested early Wednesday morning, August 21, allegedly after trying to kidnap another Chinese national.

The five suspects were also booked for allegedly trying to bribe the arresting police officers.

A report from the Makati City police office identified the arrested persons as Zhaochun Chen, 21; Mark Anthony Pareño, 39; John Muega, 24; Reyan Villanueva, 35 and Jose Marie Lavilla, 31.

Police said they were conducting regular patrol at around 2 a.m. Wednesday in Barangay Poblacion when they spotted a commotion.

The suspects were allegedly trying to drag a Chinese man into a car. The victim was identified as Ma Zhi Rui, 36.

Police said the suspects offered them P100,000 when they approached and arrested them. The officers said they refused the bribe money.

The suspects were brought to the Makati City Police Station for proper disposition and filing of charges of bribery and kidnapping. (SunStar Philippines)
