SIX persons were injured after a man who also held a five-year-old boy hostage ran amok in front of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

National Capital Region Police Office Chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said Dominador Abrillo, 38, grabbed the 9mm pistol of a security guard stationed at the Philippine National Railway Sta. Mesa Station and fired several shots, injuring six persons.

Abrillo then grabbed the five-year-old boy and threatened to kill him if he will not be able to talk to Manila City Mayor Joseph Estrada.

After at least two hours of negotiation, Abrillo laid his firearms, released the child, and surrendered to authorities.

Eleazar said based on initial investigation, Abrillo lost his mind after learning that his brother was killed in a police operation in Clark, Pampanga.

Abrillo was brought to the Sta. Mesa Police Station for proper disposition and filing of charges. (SunStar Philippines)
