CA confirms Cordoba, Ople appointments

THE Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, the interim appointments of Commission on Audit (COA) chairman Gamaliel Cordoba and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople.

The CA panel on constitutional commissions and offices chaired by Senator Cynthia Villar started the deliberation on Cordoba’s confirmation last week but was deferred due to time constraint.

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go, a member of the panel, said Cordoba is a byproduct of perseverance, commitment and passion to serve the country.

“It is my earnest belief that he will perform his given functions to the best of his abilities, aligned with the commission’s mandate to be the guardian of the taxpayers' money,” he said during a hybrid hearing.

Cordoba served as the commissioner of the National Telecommunications Commission before he was appointed to the post by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Meanwhile, Ople will serve as the first secretary of the newly created DMW, which will be fully operational in 2023.

Ople was reappointed by Marcos after the CA bypassed her appointment in September along with other appointed Cabinet members due to time constraint.

Meanwhile, the CA deferred the deliberations on the confirmation of Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla due to “lack of material time.” (SunStar Philippines)
