INSTEAD of discarding campaign materials after the May 13, 2019 elections, the Caraga police regional office has upcycled these into school bags that were distributed to some 200 pupils.

Upcycling, or creative reuse, is transforming discarded or waste materials into new products.

Caraga Police Director Gilberto Cruz said campaign materials made of plastic were used in the project.

He said 200 pupils from Barangay Poblacion, Carmen, Agusan del Norte benefited from the upcycled bags.

Each pupil received a bag filled with notebooks, paper, pencil, eraser, sharpener, plastic envelope, scissors and ballpen.

“The kids were wearing big smiles as they individually received the gifts,” said Cruz, who personally handed the items over to the students.

“Aside from promoting the Makakalikasan as PNP core value by utilizing recyclable waste materials, we also promote the Makatao by sharing simple gifts of love to the underprivileged people of Caraga,” he added.

He said another bag-giving activity will be conducted in Butuan City during the opening of classes on Monday, June 3, 2019. (SunStar Philippines)
