Chinese fugitive in BI's wanted list arrested

Sunnexdesk

AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) a Chinese fugitive wanted for economic crimes in his country.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the fugitive as 36-year-old Shi Hongye.

According to Morente, Shi was arrested last Sunday, April 15, outside the Terminal 1 of NAIA by operatives from the BI fugitive search unit (FSU).

The arresting officers reported to the BI that they chanced upon Shi during an operation to seize another Chinese fugitive, Miao You Chun, also wanted for economic crimes in China.

Miao did not appear on the scene as reported by the FSU agents.

According to BI intelligence officer and FSU chief Bobby Raquepo, Shi's passport had already been cancelled by the Chinese government due to the cases he is facing before a court in China. On November 17, 2017, the BI board of commissioners issued a summary deportation order against Shi for being undesirable alien.

The BI said the Chinese fugitive will be deported as soon as the Chinese embassy issues him his travel documents. (SunStar Philippines)
