Coronavirus cases stay above 2,000 in a day

FOR the third time in six days, new coronavirus cases exceeded 2,000 in a day, the Department of Health (DOH) case bulletin on Saturday, January 16, 2021, showed.

There were 2,058 new cases on Saturday, bringing the total case count to 498,691.

The cities and provinces with the highest number of new infections were Cavite (96), Rizal (96), Leyte (92), Quezon City (85) and Mountain Province (84).

There were eight additional mortalities, raising the death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 9,884. The case fatality rate declined to 1.98 percent from 1.99 percent on Friday.

Total recoveries reached 460,133, including 406 new recoveries on Saturday.
