MORE cases that were tagged as recoveries in previous case bulletins have been reclassified either as active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases or deaths.

In its case bulletin Friday, June 11, 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) reclassified 1,000 recoveries as active cases and 127 others as deaths.

There were also 20 recoveries that were found to be duplicates and removed from the count.

With these reclassifications, the Covid-19 death toll increased to 22,507, including the 127 cases validated as deaths and 69 other mortalities. The case fatality rate rose to 1.73 percent.

The number of active cases climbed to 61,345, including the 6,686 new infections based on the June 9 laboratory test results, and less the recoveries and deaths.

The total recoveries increased slightly to 1,216,497, including the 3,190 new recoveries in Friday’s case bulletin.

As of Friday, the total Covid-19 case count in the Philippines has increased to 1,300,349.

The daily positivity rate remained elevated at 13.3 percent, more than double the 5.0 percent benchmark set by the World Health Organization for the reopening of the economy.

All laboratories were operational on June 9, but three failed to submit their output to the Covid-19 Document Repository System. A total of 49,371 samples were processed.

Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Abdullah Dumama Jr. said over 4,000 healthcare workers have been hired and deployed to various hospitals in the Visayas and Mindanao that are experiencing a spike in Covid-19 admissions.

Dumama said they have also delivered over 130,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets to the regions.

The hospitals in the 10 regions in the Visayas and Mindanao, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), have designated an additional 365 intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 457 ward beds for Covid-19 patients.

Government hospitals have been asked to increase their Covid-19 capacity to up to 50 percent while private hospitals were asked to increase their Covid-19 capacity to a range of 20 to 30 percent, Dumama added. (Marites Villamor-Ilano with a report from HDT)
