Jail escapees in Pasay recaptured

AUTHORITIES have rearrested all the 10 inmates who escaped from Malibay jail facility in Pasay City on Monday dawn, April 3, the Southern Police District said Tuesday evening, April 4, 2023.

The escapees were identified as Richard Dela Cruz, Carlo Magno Legazpi Benavidez, Christian Samson Salvatierra, Norman Punzalan Deyta, Joey Gabriel Hernandez and Eden Rodriguez Garcia who were also facing charges for illegal drugs; Tirzo Navarro Galit, Romeo Marasigan Estopa and Joshua Panganiban who were detained for robbery; and John Michael Medellin Cabe, who is facing carnapping charges.

Pasay Chief of Police Colonel Froilan Uy said none of the escapees resisted arrest.

“Nung nakita nila na may pulis, nagpakilalang pulis, they give in na,” he said.

(When they saw that there was a policeman who introduced himself as a policeman, they gave in.)

The police official said additional charges for evasion, robbery with violence and direct assault to person in authority will be filed against the inmates.

He said the policeman who served as the jail duty officer when the incident happened was also placed under inquest for infidelity charges.

The escape happened around 4:30 a.m. of April 3 at the Malibay Detention Facility in Barangay 152 where the inmates destroyed the iron fence of the main facility and mauled the duty officer and took his service firearm, money and jail keys. (SunStar Philippines)
