Nearly 3,000 added to virus case count

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, reported an additional 2,987 cases of coronavirus infection, bringing the total case count to 139,538.

In its case bulletin as of 4 p.m., the DOH also reported an additional 280 recoveries, increasing the total to 68,482.

An additional 19 mortalities raised the death toll from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to 2,312.

Of the total case count, 68,794 were active cases, referring to patients who were still in the hospitals or in quarantine. Eighty-seven duplicates were removed from the total.

In terms of onset of illness, the DOH said 1,374 cases occurred from July 29 to August 11 while 1,591 occurred from July 1 to 28. Nine occurred in June, three in May, seven in April and three in March.

About half of the new cases, 1,510, were from the National Capital Region (NCR).

The provinces with the highest number of cases were Cavite with 398, Laguna with 144, Iloilo with 135 and Cebu with 119.

Of the 19 additional deaths, eight occurred in August, seven in July, one in June and three in April.

Seven mortalities were from the NCR, six from Central Visayas, three from Calabarzon, and one each from Ilocos and Western Visayas. One repatriate died in July. (SunStar Philippines)
