New infections decline as tests decrease

AFTER exceeding 2,000 on Sunday, new coronavirus infections declined by nearly 15 percent to 1,773 on Monday, November 30, 2020, the Department of Health (DOH) case bulletin showed.

The 18,4453 tests conducted on November 29 were also lesser by 23 percent than the 23,968 conducted on November 28.

Of the tests conducted Sunday, 959 or 5.2 percent were found positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The DOH case bulletin on Monday showed that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 431,630, of which 24,580 remained active.

It also showed 19 additional mortalities, raising the Covid-19 death toll to 8,392.

There were 44 recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 398,658.

Among the cities and provinces, Rizal recorded the highest number of new infections at 104, followed by Cavite (99), Negros Occidental (88), Davao City (79) and Laguna (72).

Coronavirus cases in the country have been decreasing since the peak of 4,111 a day in August.

There were 50,901 total cases in November based on the DOH case bulletins, or an average of 1,696 a day.

This was lower by nearly 24 percent than the 2,227 daily average in October and almost half of the 3,029 average number of infections a day in September.
