THERE are no conditions set for the forging of a peace deal between President Rodrigo Duterte and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founder Nur Misuari, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said Thursday, February 28.

"Walang (There are no) conditions whatsoever," Medialdea told reporters in an interview.

On Tuesday, February 26, the President revealed that he had made "some arrangements" with Misuari to pursue long-lasting peace in Mindanao.

The development came after Duterte met with Misuari at the Malacañan Palace on Monday night, February 25.

The President and the MNLF leader met following tbe oath-taking of the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, an interim government tasked to run the new Bangsamoro region that replaced the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Duterte said Misuari had promised to craft a "new deal" with his government, which will be discussed in their next meeting.

Pressed about the impending "deal," Medialdea clarified that it was more of a gentlemen's agreement between both sides to look for ways to attain "unlimited peace" in southern Philippines.

"Hindi nga agreement. Parang more of a gentleman [agreement] na mag-usap na lang tayo dito, magtulungan tayo dito (It's not a formal agreement. It's more of a gentleman agreement to hold a dialogue ajd help each other)," the Executive Secretary said. (SunStar Philippines)
