MALACAÑANG assured on Friday, December 14, that the investigation into the alleged illegal drugs involvement of a son of Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) chief Nicanor Faeldon would be transparent.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo confirmed that the Palace received a spot report from the Philippine National Police on the arrest of Nicanor Faeldon Jr. and four others for alleged possession of illegal drugs in a drug suspect's house in Naga City.

"We assure that there will be no whitewash in the ongoing investigation in adherence with the Administration's firm resolve to curb illegal drugs in the country," the Palace official said.

"I'm sure if the evidence warrants, the enforcers, the police enforces will be filing appropriate charges," he added.

Earlier Friday, Faeldon promised to distance himself from the investigation into his son's alleged drug links.

The BuCor chief also vowed to resign and "personally obliterate" his son if the latter is found to be involved in the illicit drugs trade.

Panelo said the Palace lauds Faeldon for making such a "principled" stance.

"The Palace commends BuCor chief Faeldon for taking a principled stand of distancing himself from the investigation, for letting police authorities do the job of probing said incident, and for offering to resign once the allegation is proven true," he said. (SunStar Philippines)
