MORE than eight out of 10 Filipinos have been registered with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) as of August 2020, according to Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

She said about 85.4 percent of the 110 million Philippine population have been registered as of August.

She said 51.78 million are members and 42.35 million are beneficiaries.

Under the Universal Health Care Law (UHC), all Filipino citizens are automatically eligible to avail themselves of the government’s health benefits packages.

The government aims to register 95 percent of the population in the national health insurance program by 2021 and the entire population by 2022.

The Universal Health Care Act, or Republic Act 11223, was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in February 2019. (SunStar Philippines from PR)
