PNP orders Erwin Tulfo to turn over guns

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered the recall of all the firearms in the possession of radio personality Erwin Tulfo following the expiration of his License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOFP), a police official said on Friday, June 7.

The recall order was issued five days after the police and military also recalled their men assigned as security detail to Erwin and his brothers Ben and Raffy as well as Raffy's wife Jocelyn.

PNP spokesperson Colonel Bernard Banac said Tulfo was notified that he should turn over all his firearms to the PNP for safekeeping prior to the renewal of his LTOPF.

“If an LTOFP is expired, there is no more authority or reason for an individual to own firearms even if the licenses of their firearms is still valid, they need to be surrendered for safekeeping,” he said.

Applications for the renewal of LTOFP may be filed after the end of the election period on June 12, Banac said.

Earlier, Tulfo’s brother Raffy asked the PNP not to cancel their LTOFP as they already lost their police security escorts, also by the order of the PNP.

However, PNP Civil Security Group spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Regina Abanales said they do not order the cancellation of the LTOPF as it normally expires.

Tulfo has been in hot water after he cursed and lambasted former Army chief now Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista, who did not grant his request for interview.

The PNP earlier ordered the recall of eight police officers assigned as security detail to the Tulfo brothers and Raffy's wife. (SunStar Philippines)
