A PHILIPPINE National Police Academy (PNPA) cadet died while undergoing a New Cadet Summer Training Program within the school vicinity in Silang, Cavite on Tuesday, May 14.

PNPA spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Byron Allatog identified the cadet as Cadet 4th Class Al Rasheed Pendatun Macadato, 21, a native of Kalilangan, Bukidnon.

He said Macadato passed out around 4:45 p.m. while having a road run.

Macadato was rushed to the PNPA Medical Dispensary and was later on transferred to the Qualimed Hospital in Sta. Rosa Laguna and was declared dead around 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 15.

Allatog said Macadato had been undergoing training in the past 10 days.

He said heat stroke was the cause of Macadato’s death.

PNPA Director Brigadier General Chiquito Malayo said the attending physicians had already ruled out possible hazing against Macadato as possible cause of his death.

“The New Cadet Summer Training Package being used is the same of the previous years following a progressive or increasing timeline in runs, push-ups and pull ups,” he said.

“The other factor affecting the training packet now is the hot weather, thus new cadets are required by their squad leaders to drink 12-14 glasses or more per day to compensate the El Niño or the warm phase of Enso,” he added.

Malayo assured Macadato's family that all the assistance will be provided to them and a deeper investigation will be conducted to determine the extent of the whole training schedule and if lapses are present. (SunStar Philippines)
