THE state weather bureau has officially declared the onset of the rainy season in the country.

Chris Perez, senior weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said in a Facebook live Friday, June 8, that the agency has officially declared the start of the rainy season.

"Nagsimula na po ang panahon ng tag-ulan dito sa ating bansa. Na-satisfy na po 'yung criteria ng rainfall sa mga Type 1 climate stations kung kaya't opisyal nang dineklara ng Pagasa na simula na ng tag-ulan sa ating bansa," he said.

Perez also announced that "Domeng," which intensified into a tropical storm, and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over Aurora, Bataan and the regions of Bicol, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Western Visayas Friday.

It said the tropical storm will enhance the southwest monsoon, which may bring monsoon rains over Metro Manila and the rest of western sections of Luzon and Visayas this weekend.

The weather bureau advised the public against possible flash floods and landslides. (SunStar Philippines)
