SSS asked to hire more personnel

A LAWMAKER on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, filed a resolution urging the Social Security System (SSS) to hire additional personnel to address long queues of members and retirees applying for loans.

House Resolution no. 1093 also asks SSS to extend its office hours to 7 p.m. to accommodate those who have been queuing for hours.

Cagayan de Oro City Representative Rufus Rodriguez, who filed the resolution, said SSS should provide its branches the funds for the payment of overtime and night shift pay of its personnel and purchase of additional computers and tents to serve as waiting areas “so as not to make people wait under the sun”.

“But due to the lack of personnel and equipment, many SSS offices can no longer accommodate long lines of loan applicants and other members making transactions with them, resulting in delays in the processing and release of loans and other benefits,” he said.

Rodriguez said there are only four computers being used at the SSS branches in Barangay Carmen and Barangay Lapasan in Cagayan de Oro City.

Rodriguez added that the SSS branch in Barangay Carmen has only five personnel while the Barangay Lapasan branch has three. (Jove Moya/SunStar Philippines)
