THE City of Bacolod has hired 1,300 youth for the summer jobs program with the support of Special Program for the Employment Students (Spes) of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

Anthony Ayco, head of Public Employment Services Office (PESO), said yesterday that 90 of the 1,300 “summer jobbers” will get 60 percent of their pay from Dole and 40 percent from the city government.

They will receive at least P7,000 for 22 days.

The remaining 1,210 will be paid fully by the city government at P3,000 for 15 days.

Some of the “summer jobbers” are out-of-school youth.

Ayco said they started the hiring last month through the assistance of the barangays, and Public Affairs and Assistance Division (Paad).

He said the “summer jobbers” will be deployed to various barangays starting the first week of May to conduct skills updating, business permit inspection, among others.

“This program aims to help the students on their tuition fee for the school opening this year,” Ayco added.

Because of the limited slots from Dole, Mayor Evelio Leonardia finds funds for the summer jobs program so they can hire more students to help their expenses for the opening of classes, Ayco said.

“As soon as they completed their work, we will facilitate the release of their salaries immediately,” Ayco said. (MAP)
