Tim Reed wins 3rd Ironman 70.3 title in Cebu

AUSSIE Timothy James 'Tim' Reed snagged the men’s pro title in the 2017 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines to ink his third straight title in Cebu.

The 32-year-old Reed clocked 3 hours, 54 minutes and 07 in the 1.9-kilometer swim, 90K bike and 21K run race, which started and ended at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City on Sunday, August 6.

Reed grabbed the lead after a stellar ride in the bike leg, finishing in 2:01:51 with more than five minutes lead from the chasers. He came out of the water third with 26:31 and finished the run leg in 1:23:36.

Xterra pro Mauricio Mendez, 22, came second in 3:56:46 and Ryan Fisher was third with a time of 4:00:20.

Reed snatched the half-Ironman distance title in 2015 here before winning the 2016 Asia-Pacific 70.3 Championships.

The women’s pro title went to 26-year-old Amelia Watkinson of New Zealand after clocking 4:29:17. Australians Jacquiline Thistleton and Kerry Morris finished as runners-up with times of 4:35:53 and 4:39:11.

Completing the Top 10 in the men’s pro were Timothy Peter Van Berkel (4:02:31), Brent Mcmahon (4:05:24), Callum Millward (4:10:20), Brad Williams (4:19:55), Eric Watson (4:23:30), Jakub Langhammer (4:32:27) and Iain Alexandridis (4:35:12).
