1 killed, 3 hurt as truck falls

A 10-wheeler Fuso truck fell into a deep canal, leaving its driver dead and three others injured.

The incident happened at 2:10 in the afternoon Sunday at Sitio Kaimito, Barangay Suawan, Marilog District.

The victims were identified by Police Senior Inspector Achilles C. Bargio, chief of Marilog Police Station identified the victims as Reneboy G. Gerez, 30, resident of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, Josephine B. Sungkiu, Brix G. Balbeno and Jane G. Sungkit.

The truck bore the license plate MVV-319 and was driven by Gerez.

In a message sent to Superbalita, Bargio said that Gerez was dead when they found him while the three wounded were immediately brought to Isaac Robillo Hospital in Calinan.

"Gikansabukidang truck nagdalani'gsaging, na-lose trade ang brake base saatonginisyalngaimbestigasyon, mao tong nahulogsalawom-lawomngakanal, ogpataydihadayonang driver ani, (The truck loaded with bananas was going downslope when it lost its brakes. The driver died on the spot)," Bargio said in a telephone interview with Superbalita.
