City gov’t eyes centralized roasting facility

THE City Government is establishing a P6.5 million facility to centralize the roasting of pigs by the “lechoneros” in this southern port city.

Lechoneros refers to businessmen engage in the trade of roasted pigs. There are at least 20 registered lechoneros in the city.

Task Force Karne Team Leader Amelia Amar said the centralized roasting facility will ensure that the roasted pigs being sold to the public have passed the necessary inspection.

Amar said the roasting facility will be constructed inside the compound of the city government-owned abattoir in the village of San Roque.

Amar said the roasting facility will include enclosed lavatory and others.

She said the facility will also serve as one of the sources of income of the City Government through the payment of service charges. (SunStar Philippines)
