BACOLOD City Councilor Catalino Alisbo wants to clear the sidewalks and public roads of illegal structures as contained in his proposed resolution that gained the City Council's approval Wednesday.

rAlisbo's resolution requested Mayor Evelio Leonardia to direct the Task Force on Illegal Structures to strictly enforce City Ordinance 53, series of 1988, which declares edifices and other structures built on public roads and sidewalks as "nuisance per se" and provides penalties for its violation.

Alisbo said it is the policy of the City of Bacolod that private edifices and all other structures standing on public roads and sidewalks are considered nuisance per se and therefore be summarily removed without need of judicial recourse.

The ordinance prohibits any person, natural or juridical, to establish, erect, build or maintain any edifices and all other structures, whether temporary or permanent, on public roads and sidewalks.

Bacolod City residents are suffering from the continuing deterioration of traffic brought about by socio-economic development and increase of population.

The proliferation of illegal structures along the roads and sidewalks of the city has exacerbated the already chaotic city traffic and have become eye sores. (Carla N. Cañet)
