DA eyes soil analysis in farm lands

TO improve food production, the Daanbantayan Municipal Government has tied up with the Department of Agriculture (DA) 7 for the soil examination in the town.

The move seeks to address poverty among farmers in the area.

Based on their survey, Mayor Vicente Loot said that the poverty incidence in the municipality, whose residents are mostly farmers, is at 42 percent.

This means that four out of 10 Daanbantayan folks are living below the poverty line.

Last Feb. 14, DA 7 Director Salvador Diputado said they will assist the farmers not only in Cebu but also in Bohol and Siquijor in examining their land and teaching them what crops are suitable for it.

“The agency will promote scientific-based agriculture so theywill know what kind of crops are suitable to what kind of soil,” he said.

The regional director said that President Rodrigo Duterte has marching orders to DA Secretary Manny Piñol to improve the food production.
