Davao designers, Ann Pamintuan collaborate

MEMBERS of the Davao Fashion and Design Council (DFDC) paid tribute to the internationally-acclaimed furniture and jewelry designer Ann Tiukinhoy Pamintuan via a collaboration show.

Drawing inspiration from some of the most famous furniture designs of Pamintuan, the highly-creative designers of Davao came up with clothing pieces that exude both class and artistry.

The furniture design-inspired clothing highlighted the Fashion Weekend's Furniture X Fashion exhibit last August 4 to 6 at Abreeza Mall Activity Center.

Pamintuan is among the top contemporary designers and artists from the Philippines, whose works have earned her a number of prestigious reviews and awards from international and national jurors and critics in the field of design.

While still in Surigao, where she was born and raised, Pamintuan already saw the wonders of the natural world around her, which later on inspired her to create her own designs.

When she moved to Davao City, she discovered an abundance of material resources for her artistic works.

However, she opted to work primarily with metal; something which showcases her uniqueness as a designer. She transforms this preferred medium into very graceful and compelling functional forms and metal motifs that have defined her distinctive artistic innovations in her furniture, jewelry, and sculptures.

These were all encapsulated in her "Romancing Nature in Metal" source book published by the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

During the three-day exhibit, creations and interpretations of Aztec Barba, Emi Alexander Englis, Dodjie Batu, Bamba Limon, Windell Mira, Edgar Buyan, Egay Ayag, and Benjie Panizales were on display, along with the furniture that inspired their designs. The award-winning metal pieces include the Cocoon Chair, Cocoon Lounge, Gingko Chair, Sun and Moon, Oxygen Chair, Threesome Lounge, and Cocoon Infinity Wall Art.
