STEFFI Marie Dizon of Davao City teammed up with Kirstie Holly A. Barraquias to help the De La Salle University (DLSU) women's team pocket a gold medal at the close of the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) tennis competition at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex recently.

Dizon, a former Ateneo de Davao Univeristy (Addu) player, paired with Barraquias in the first doubles of the DLSU team that was also composed of Trudy Amoranto, Martina Guba, Regina Santiago, Nikki de Dios and Enah Baba.

DLSU nipped the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), 3-2, in their final match of the second round.

"We became champion after sweeping all our games in the first and second rounds of the tournament," Dizon said.

In the first round, Dizon and Barraquias defeated their rivals from the Ateneo de Manila University, 4-1, then defeated University of the Philippines (UP), 4-1, and overcame UST, 3-2.

The DLSU Green Lancers crushed UP, 4-1, at the start of the second round and won two more matches for the title.

Dizon, who dominated age-group tennis in the Davao Region over the past years, is a junior International Studies student. She majors in European Studies. She had been a DLSU full varsity scholar since her freshman year. (MLSA)
