A NEW system developed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will capture and generate pertinent data on clients in crisis situations.

Provided by the DSWD-Cordillera Autonomous Region crisis intervention units, Regional Director Porfiria Bernardez said the system will allow personnel to maximize information and communication technology through the internet.

Social workers will now be able to capture and input the profile of clients and beneficiaries, their problems and needs, the social worker’s assessment and the corresponding interventions provided by the agency into the system, she said.

The system in return will process and generate summaries for these clients and their particular cases.

The Crisis Intervention Monitoring System (Crims) will also generate comprehensive information, reports, and data summaries which will be used for policy and plan development, standards setting, provision of support services, and technical assistance to intermediaries and enhancement of social protection programs and services for community and center-based clients.

Recently, the agency conducted a national training for social workers and management information system staff for the utilization of the new information system.

Seventeen crisis intervention units nationwide were also provided ICT equipment to include digital cameras and laptop computers for the full implementation of the system.

Aside from the Crims, the DSWD is also using a disaster incident reporting system through mobile phone technology and the internet.

DSWD expects the implementation of the Crims to be in full swing on the second half of the year. (JM Agreda)
