Duterte’s support for bill sought

REP. Benhur Salimbangon has sought President Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement of his bill that seeks to declare Cebu’s fourth district as an economic zone and tourist destination.

Although his bill already passed the committee level, he said that Duterte’s endorsement will fast track its approval in the House of Representatives.

His bill, Salimbangon said, will provide jobs, generate additional taxes, and provide a five-year tax holiday to investors and tax-free importation of raw materials and equipment.

With this, Salimbangon is optimistic that different industries will sprout in the district and contribute to its economic growth.

The congressman also said that his bill will help decongest Metro Cebu.

“If you noticed, Metro Cebu is so congested that every time we talk about development, people think that opportunities are only in this area, which is wrong,” he said.

Salimbangon said that the fourth district has huge, flat lands that can be developed. It only needs necessary infrastructure like roads, bridges, Roro ports and trains to and from Cebu City.

“There will then be no need for the people to go to Metro Cebu to find a business or job,” he said.
