Sunnexdesk

La Trinidad, Benguet - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) in partnership with the province will experiment on growing strawberries in a year.

Eloisa Romero local coordinator of the Jica said pilot areas for the strawberry experiment are in Atok, Buguias, Mankayan, Tublay, Kabayan, Kibungan Tuba and la Trinidad.

Romero said the strawberries will be grown in greenhouses which will be using less pesticide. The products fall under the "safe vegetable" products of the Japanese non-government organization advocates.

A memorandum of agreement was also signed Wednesday for the promotion of safe vegetables in the province.

JICA project manager Yoichito Kawasaki is set to formally present the project to the respective mayors of the chosen municipalities where the strawberry project is to be grown.

The project is in coordination with Japan Agricultural Exchange Council.
