A 24-YEAR-OLD woman visiting her jailed live-in partner at a prison in Tacloban City was recently arrested for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the detention facility.

Sketchy reports said Saira Danice Tejones, 24, a resident of Barangay 66-A Anibong, Tacloban City, attempted to smuggle methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu into the Tacloban City police lock-up cell by hiding a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing the illegal drug in a “suman latik” or rice cake.

Tejones was visiting her live-in partner, Edward Herrera, who was arrested during the June 22 anti-illegal drug raid in Barangay Anibong along with six other individuals, including a village official.

The woman was caught after a thorough food inspection and body search randomly implemented by the police and the jail guards.

Tejones said she was commanded by a certain “Baste,” a friend of Herrera, to deliver the food and two cups of salad to the inmate without telling her about the drugs.

“I delivered it without checking because it was sealed,” the woman said in vernacular.

Authorities are readying drug charges against her. (Sunnex)
