CONGRESSMAN Jerry Treñas will give due attention and priority to a redistricting bill he will soon file in Congress that will upgrade and divide Iloilo City into two congressional districts.
Treñas, who was former Iloilo City mayor, said he pledged to give the city two congressional districts with two congressmen having two priority development assistance funds for projects.
The bill also called for one city mayor, one vice mayor and eight city councilors for each congressional district.
"If other smaller cities in the country have two congressional districts, why not Iloilo City. Besides, we have nothing to lose but only to gain if we have two congressional districts," Treñas said.
The bill seeks to divide the seven city districts with the Iloilo River as the directional divider.
The city districts of Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz and Mandurriao will be known as the first district, while the city districts of Arevalo, Molo and the city proper will be known as the second district. (LCP)
