Los Amigos water supply system expansion pushed

THE City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) is proposing for an expansion of the water supply system at Los Amigos Relocation Site Phase 1.

In a letter addressed to Councilor Leah Librado-Yap, CPDO officer-in-charge Marcelino Escalada Jr. said the expansion aims to address the urgent need to remove the existing Concrete Cast Iron (CCI) pipe that may cause danger to the residents in case of pipe bursts.

He also said that the project will provide the need for individualized water meter for each household.

A copy of the project proposal states that the CCI pipe was tapped by the Davao City Water District across the area, which was intended to address their immediate demand for water then and it was found out that the old pipeline can be hazardous because it was laid beneath some of the households.

Escalada said the project "shall be funded from the Accumulated Financial Benefit of Davao as host to power generating plants pursuant to Department of Energy Regulation 1-94."

According to the CPDO, the amount requested for the project proposal is P1.2 million which will be taken from the Reforestation, Watershed Management, Health and/or Environment Enhancement Fund (RWMHEEF) under Energy Regulation No. 1-94.

Los Amigos Relocation Site Phase 1 is a project of the local government of Davao City, which started in 2009 and has a total of 823 residential lots, 648 of these lots were already awarded to qualified beneficiaries from which 464 awardees are currently occupying their assigned lots.

The proposal is set to be approved on first reading during the regular session of the City Council today, July 1.
