TWO most wanted persons in Mandaue City were arrested last Thursday morning, ending a 10-year police hunt.

A team from the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) and Police Station 2 of Mandaue City Police Office headed by Police Supt. Josefino Ligan arrested Lloyd Fontanosa and Michael Karolasan in their homes on Gothong Road, Barangay Subangdaku at 11:30 a.m.

Fontanosa, 31, and Karolasan, 26, were among MCPO’s most wanted persons.

They were involved in the killing of Benito Durangparang Jr., a sidewalk vendor in Consolacion and member of Tau Gamma Phi.

In an interview, Ligan said Fontanosa, Karolasan and Jonathan Trinidad, who are all members of Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho), shot Durangparang on H. Cortes St., Subangdaku on March 1, 2005.

He said the three suspects acted in revenge after the victim argued with an Akrho member.

“Anang mga tuiga uso man ang away sa fraternity (That time, fraternity rivalry was at its peak),” Ligan said.

Murder

Fontanasa, Karolasan and Trinidad are facing a murder case.

Judge Marilyn Lagura Yap of Regional Trial Court Branch 28 had issued an arrest warrant against the suspects.

No bail

No bail was recommended.

Ligan said the arrest warrant had long been issued by the court, but they had a hard time looking for the suspects.

The police officials received a tip from an informant, which led to the suspects’ arrest.

Ligan said Fontanosa, who is jobless, was arrested inside his house.

Karolasan, who has a live-in partner, had just arrived home from work when the arrest warrant was served.

Both suspects denied the allegation.

Trinidad is still at large.

Karolasan and Fontanosa were detained at the Police Station 2 detention cell.
