NPA rebel surrenders to authorities

A NEW People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered to the authorities on Sunday, September 3, in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported.

The Zamboanga del Norte police identified the NPA surrenderer as Marciano Gandiag of Sitio Budjong in the village of Kauswagan, Sergio Osmena town.

The police said that Gandiag has turned over a Caliber .30 M1 Garand rifle and ammunition when he surrendered.

Gandiag belongs to the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, the police said.

Gandiag, although has tried to distant himself from the NPA, but he is still being frequently visited by his comrade, the police added. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
