A SURVEY aimed at improving the tourism industry in the country will start in September.

National Statistics Office (NSO) statistician Jean Floirendo said the agency will start the first Survey of Tourism Establishments in the Philippines (Step).

Step is a survey that will gauge the current revenue generated by tourism establishments in the country.

In Baguio City, Floirendo said there are many tourism-related establishments which are still not registered with the Department of Tourism.

She said the survey will help the National Government and local government units improve the current tourism-related services they offer to foreign and domestic tourists.

She added the survey will also help emerging tourist destinations in the region to be recognized. Future expansion in ecotourism and adventure parks development will also be included in the survey.

Baguio, the country's Summer Capital, has been the third top destination in the country last year, according to the Department of Tourism.
