PORAC, Pampanga -- Some P17 million representing cash collections were reported missing from the coffers of this town based on an audit report dated March 9.

This was confirmed by Vice Mayor Dexter David through his Facebook post over the weekend.

David wrote that the missing cash, which are under the custody of the municipal treasurer, were collected from December 2016 to February 2017.

David also stated that the municipal auditor discovered the missing funds after the March 9 cash audit report.

Town Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz immediately requested the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation on the missing funds.

Dela Cruz also asked the Department of Finance (DOF) to replace the town's treasurer, Maria Luisa Vitug, pending the investigation.

Initial report revealed that only cheques are being deposited to the local government's bank.

However, David said, it is not clear where the treasurer brought the missing money.

"The treasurer's office is in charge of all municipal collections and it is their job to deposit all collections both cash and cheques. Kayamu it was found that cheki lamu madedeposit," David said in his Facebook post.

David said the DOF is preparing a case against the treasurer in connection with the missing funds.

"It is not clear also what happened to her so budol budol is just a speculation. This is all we have right now. We will update you on the progress of the investigation," David commented in his Facebook post.
