PHL drops to last in Asean U16

THE Philippines is still winless in Group A after a humiliating 7-0 drubbing by Australia in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Smart Under-16 Chamionship at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia the other night.

Mirza Muratovic led the Aussies charge with a hat trick, scoring in the 27th , 88th and 90th minutes . Jaidon Selden scored in the ninth minute, Joel King hit the back of the net in the 36th , Mark Moric added another in the 53rd minute and Lachlan Brook scored in the 80th minute.

In other Group A matches, Vietnam remained unbeaten with a 5-1 crushing of Myanmar and Malaysia grabbed its first tournament win with a 2-0 victory over Singapore.

Vietnam remained at the top of the table with nine points from three wins. Australia rose to second place with four points and has a slight advantage on goal difference over third ranked Mayanmar and fourth place Malaysia. Singapore is fifth with three points, while the Philippines dropped to last place with just a single point.

The Philippines’ next assignment is Group A leader Vietnam today. Australia faces off with Singapre, while Malaysia takes on Myanmar.

The top two teams of both groups face off each other in the semi-final round.

The Philippines has six Cebuanos in the team - Ronald Bitor, Pietre Dakay, Leo Maquiling, Jessie Reil Semblante, Ivan Ouano and Joaquin Suarez.
