Police rescue kidnapped Chinese trader (8:45 a.m.)

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Police rescued Monday a Filipino-Chinese businessman who was kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf bandits last December 14, 2008 in Jolo, Sulu.

Xi Li Wu, alias Peter Go, was rescued after the Sulu Police Provincial Office personnel launched offensives against the bandits led by Commander Julmidin.

The police encountered the Abu Sayyaf members Monday evening in Luuk town, Sulu and the firefight reportedly lasted for almost an hour. There was no reported casualty on the government side.

Also recovered from Julmidin's group were several firearms and hand grenades. (Sunnex)
