‘Put up pedestrian lanes near schools’

Ian Jefrey Addatu

BACOLOD City Councilor Caesar Distrito in his approved resolution has requested the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) through the Office of the City Mayor Monico Puentevella to repaint or put up pedestrian lanes near the public and private schools.

It is the thrust of the city government to secure the safety of the students, teachers, and other members of the society in crossing the street, the resolution stated.

It added that it was observed there are pedestrian lanes in most of the schools in Bacolod City which have already faded or not been marked yet which makes it unsafe for the citizens, particularly the students, when crossing the street for some of them will just run across the street where large and fast-moving vehicles are running.

One way of promoting road safety and minimizing vehicular accidents is to educate the students by compelling them to use the pedestrian lanes in crossing the streets, the resolution also said.

There are also streets near schools that do not have pedestrian lanes which is dangerous and should be immediately marked given that schools had already opened, it said, adding that with the presence of pedestrian lanes, students and other citizens will have a safe proper area in crossing the street.
