MEMBERS and consumers of the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative (Noreco 2) expressed concerns that they will also experience rotating blackouts on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Some power consumers who requested anonymity told Sun.Star that they experienced blackouts during their Christmas party Wednesday night.

But Noreco 2 General Manager Eunora Sameon said the unscheduled blackouts are due to rotating blackouts. She explained that rotating blackouts depend on the demand from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

She also said that NGCP asked them for Manual Load Dropping (MLD) so that they can also provide power supply to places that were hit by the recent Super Typhoon Yolanda.

The MLD, Sameon said, was implemented after the energy sources in Leyte were down due to devastation.

She believed that until the power supply from the power plants in Leyte is restored, rotating blackout will still be experienced.

Negros Oriental, being one of the energy sources in the Visayas Grid, supplies power to Iloilo, Cebu and Leyte.

Moreover, Sameon urged the more than 20,000 power consumers from 17 towns and cities in Negros Oriental under the Noreco 2 area of jurisdiction to be patient for and in behalf of Yolanda victims.

She also urged the consumers to donate the one-hour rotating brownouts to Yolanda victims as their Christmas gift.
