THE Bacolod City Council has passed a resolution requesting the various Parents-Teachers and Community Associations (PTCAs) of elementary and high schools in Bacolod City to enforce the Anti-Truancy Ordinance.

City Ordinance No. 633, Series of 2013 or the “Anti-Truancy Ordinance for Elementary and High School Students of Bacolod City” was passed by the City Council on February 25, 2013. The resolution was authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor.

Verdeflor said the ordinance aims to deter truancy by helping students to be more responsible and productive by attending classes regularly and preventing them from lingering outside school campuses where they are susceptible to street crimes and other forms of danger.

Sections 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 provides for a truant officer duly appointed by the PTCA concerned to handle enforcement with regard to violators.

The ordinance stated that it is imperative for the PTCAs under the Department of Education to assist in the strict enforcement of the Anti-Truancy Ordinance for the best interest of the students in the city.
